This podcast is hosted by the fact checkers from the TV show, QI. The writers huddle around a microphone and discuss the best facts they've found out that week, each presenting their favourite piece of information over the hour-long episode. The title of the podcast itself comes from one of their quirky facts, which is a theory introduced by biologist Steven Jay Gould. Steven has spent his lifetime studying marine biology and argues that there is no such thing as a fish, as a salmon is more closely related to a camel than a hagfish. This is merely a snippet of what this podcast is like, so if you’re looking for something to entertain and inform you on a long journey – this one is for you.

The High Low

Journalists and award-winning authors, Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes, team up to discuss current affairs and pop culture on their typically hour-long podcast, The High Low. The title comes from the merging of what Tina Brown coined ‘high and low’ levels of journalism, as the show takes interest in both water-cooler gossip and hard-hitting political topics. Whether that be discussing outfit choices at the Oscars or the effect Trumpian politics is having on the world, Alderton and Sykes cover the broad spectrum of news-worthy topics in a frank yet fun and conversational way. In addition, any literature-lovers out there will highly appreciate their book recommendations!

The Travel Diaries

If you’re looking for a podcast that can be informative and provide inspiration for your own travels, The Travel Diaries should be added to your collection. Entertainment and Travel journalist Holly Reubenstein invites a special guest every week to discuss the travel destinations and experiences that have shaped their lives thus far. Listen to individuals reminisce on their earliest childhood travel memory, their all-time favourite destination, their hidden gem recommendations and what is number one on their bucket list.

TED Talks Daily

Morning commutes are always a struggle; too little space, too much noise and never the right environment to psych your brain up for the working day ahead. That’s where Ted Talks Daily comes in. Every weekday, TED Talks uploads a shorter podcast for you to take on the go, with each episode averaging at around 18 minutes long. Get your quick fix of thought-provoking discussions on every subject imaginable, from technology to literature, with some of the world’s most trailblazing thinkers. Who needs coffee to wake you up when you have podcasts like this?

Tim Ferriss Show

Tim Ferriss is an award-winning author, entrepreneur and self-proclaimed ‘self-experimenter.’ His work over the years has intended to help and inspire his audiences to reach their full potential in work, health or simply life in general. The Tim Ferriss Show takes similar form, as he invites market-leading performers from eclectic areas such as venture capital, chess, sports and more, onto his podcast. He digs deep to find the tools, tactics and tricks that have propelled his guests to success, of which his listeners can then implement into their own lives. This podcast would provide great brain food for a longer road trip; prepare to come out the other side feeling inspired!

If you’re heading off on holiday soon or simply need a pick-me-up for your bus journey home, plugging into any of these podcasts will not only entertain but inform you on your travels.
