Since this strain of the Coronavirus appeared on our radars early 2020, it’s been changing the way we perceive the world - from greeting one another to office environments. The events of 2020 will inevitably change life as we know it, even down to consumer spending habits.

Now, it’s even more important to use a prepaid travel card when spending abroad - here’s why:

Go cashless

Early in the Coronavirus outbreak the WHO released a statement urging people to go cashless, as bacteria from the virus can linger on bank notes for up to 48 hours after being contaminated.

Using a contactless card is a safer method of spending as it not only prevents the spread of bacteria, it also stops vulnerable travellers from carrying wads of cash around.

We’ve changed our product offering to enable our customers to spend on their Caxton Card in the UK, with no fees.* The contactless limit was also lifted to £45.00 in April to encourage the use of card spending even more.

Lock in a rate to avoid market volatility

With Brexit, General Elections and the Coronavirus outbreak, we’ve had to deal with a lot of market volatility in the past few years. Unbeknown to many, the fluctuating foreign exchange market can actually work in your favour and could save you hundreds.

Using a prepaid travel card is beneficial as you can lock in a preferential rate to ensure that you get the most bang for your buck when it comes to travel money.

If the Pound to Euro looks particularly good one day - don’t hesitate, lock it in!

Event cancellation

Most, if not all of us will have had holidays or events cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We want to help our customers to ensure that they are covered when booking future events, which is why we’ve introduced Caxton Protect.

Caxton Protect will cover you for any items bought online using your Caxton Card, which are damaged or stolen, within the first 90 days from purchase date. It will also cover you up to the value of £500 per year for any events that you book, should you be unable to attend.
